Us & Our Dogs
We have raise and bred Shih Tzu for over the past 21 years now, and we have absolutely loved every minute of it! I was raised along side many of our dogs. My mother started breeding them when I was 9, when she got her first Shih Tzu, a tiny Imperial named Daisy, she only weighed 5 pounds and was so very darling! Very sadly, Daisy has since passed away. We didn't know Daisy would begin to have seizures at 3 and we bred her at 2, we do regret breeding her but all 3 puppies were healthy beautiful babies. But little Daisy would from 3 years old and on have seizures that required CPR to bring her back. No amount of medication, CT and MRI scans, you name it, seemed to help in the slightest. At one point our vet just said it was something we had to live with and could not fix.
Daisy set us on the mission we still hold close to our hearts. To produce HEALTHY, QUALITY and SOUND Shih Tzu that families could enjoy for many, many long years. We got our first breeding pair which both came from champion parents, we wanted to start off right! My mother began breeding them in earnest when I was 9 and I got my first pair, both from champion parents as well at the age of 16. I have been doing it then under the guidance of my mother and my vet who raise, bred and showed Shih Tzu for 10 years, she helps me know where to improve and how we can always better our lines. We love our dogs so incredibly much, and treat them like gold, I want our hard work to show through in the puppies we produce. Our retired males and females stay here with us to finish out their lives with the people they love who raised them, this is why we now live in the country so we can have land for our babies to roam and play and still be inside with us all day when it isn't potty time or play time.
We do not have a kennel for our dogs either! They all live in home under foot and are very much loved family members, the only time they go in a crate is when its bed time, and these are just the average crates you'd buy for your own dog from a pet store. I keep my dogs well groomed too, in fact I became a professional groomer just so I could upkeep my dogs and work from home to always be with my babies, they are always groomed and kept clean, I wouldn't have it any other way!
Most our breeding and future breeding female dogs have been home raised with males being brought in for fresh quality bloodlines. They are all AKC and all meet breed standard, if not exactly, then as close as possible. We really do pride ourselves on our dogs and just how gorgeous they are, they are all darling and amazing animals. They are very loving and so incredibly playful, they are so smart and sweet, absolutely love meeting new people, I really couldn't ask for a better breed to have been raised around! I'd like to add that I do have a variety of lines in my home raised dogs, they are not all related even though all were born here as we have had many lines over the years to give diversity.
To us, dogs are more than just pets, we really cherish them, and they truly are a part of our family, they all live in the house with us and follow us around as the daily chores are done. They are all amazing dogs and are so fun to have and know, not to mention, we love spoiling our dogs! Since I can't have children, for me these guys are my children, and I wouldn't have it any other way. This breed is amazing, and we have had so many of our babies leave us to be emotional support or service dogs and just plain amazing companions. I know for the rest of my life, I will ALWAYS have a Shih Tzu in my life. They are simply just amazing.
Oh! And if you are wondering what C & M stands for, my last name is Cooper while my mother's is Montoya, since we have both founded our lines and breeding program, I wanted to include my mother in the name, so it became C & M's.
